Tradeshow Guide: CES® in Las Vegas 2014

The International Consumer Electronics Show, or CES®, has been successful for more than forty years, connecting the electronics industry across the global market and bringing together more than 2,000 companies into a weekend of innovation, discovery and excitement.

Owned and operated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the show is held each January in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first CES® was introduced in New York City in 1967, with over 17,000 attendants and around 100 exhibitors, and since then has grown in popularity and acclaim within the electronics industry. United States consumer electronics has grown to become a $209 billion industry, and is expected to grow to $289 billion by 2014. This booming industry contains many facets of CE technology, and CEA members include individuals in electronics research, training, education, promotion, legislature and more. The CES® provides an opportunity for all gather each year to unveil new technologies and showcase industry collaborations. All levels of the industry are represented, from large multinational corporations to up-and-coming young entrepreneurs.

Many incredible products have been first introduced at CES®, including the VCR, camcorder, CD player, digital satellite systems, HDTV, the Microsoft Xbox, plasma television, and Blu-Ray disc technology. While not open to the public, the International CES® is a must-attend for industry professionals, typically totaling around 150,000 in attendance. The following information will help guide first-time attendees in their unforgettable trip to the International CES®.

CEA Membership

The Consumer Electronics Association is comprised of more than 2,000 companies and promotes the collaboration of ideas and innovation. With unequaled market research and unlimited networking opportunities, the CEA provides a voice of the industry and a vision of growth for the consumer electronics industry. In addition to connecting industry professionals, the CEA also provides a strong, united presence in the governmental policy-making progress, protecting technology and moving it forward.

Read more about the CEA’s important involvement with the government and legal affairs. Regardless of the size or age of a company, joining the CEA has never been more important or beneficial for CE professionals. It’s now easier than ever, with several levels of membership available, including:

  • Regular Membership: Manufacturers and distributors of consumer electronics or technologies or services that enhance CE devices.
  • Associate Membership: Business solutions and B2B services, or conducts business within the CE industry.
  • Retailer/Integrator Membership: Seller or installer of CE products directly to the consumer, either online or in a storefront.
  • International Affiliate Membership: Conducts business within the CE industry but does not have a North American office.
  • Startup Membership: Similar to regular membership, but offered at a lower cost for up to two years to qualifying startup companies.

Registration and Cost

The International CES® is a trade-only event, making it closed to the general public. Those in attendance are professionals in the consumer electronics industry and must be 18 years of age, with proof of age and business affiliation upon checking in.

Early registration (before August 31) is free; some other important dates to consider include:

  • September 1: $100 advance registration opens
  • October 1: Conference Program registration begins
  • December 27: No refunds on cancellations after this date
  • January 2: $200 on-site registration starts

Lodging and Travel

What better place to have a conference than fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada? The conference will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and World Trade Center, The Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and the Venetian. Thousands of exhibitors will be in attendance, each introducing new and exciting electronic products and sharing innovations and plans for the future. The International CES® Conference Program is an all-inclusive collection of elite sessions and partnerships featuring some of the biggest industry names. CES® Conference Program Sessions will be available on October 1, and speakers for each are visionaries in their professions, offering insight into their consumer electronics businesses.
